Fashion without Sacrifice
Step into the wonderful new world of sustainable fashion, where putting your best foot forward doesn’t mean sacrificing ethics or our Mother earth. As ethical clothing brands in Australia and beyond continue to bloom, so do your choices for both eco-friendly and durable accessories, such as vegan leather bags, wallets, sandals and of course . . Oh-so-coveted boots! According to a sustainability report developed by Kering in 2018, the impact of any kind of vegan-leather production is about ⅓ lower than animal skin leather. What can make vegan goods even more sustainable is when they utilize plant leather, like cactus leather, grape skin leather or Pinatexpineapple leather.
What is grape leather?
Grape leather, also called wine leather, is made by Vegea, an Italian technology company. Grape skins and stalks are recycled by the Italian wine industry, dried and bio-oil is extracted & polymerized to make the material. The result is a soft plant leather that is shockingly similar to animal leather. While it may sound too good to be true, grape leather is 100% sustainable and contains very minimal non-toxic chemicals. The production makes use of the same water again and again, reducing the need for additional H2O. It’s said to be the next big thing when it comes to mainstream materials in the fashion forward industry. Shopping for sustainable vegan gifts for yourself or someone else has never been easier. Plus, by purchasing these new, innovative materials you help drive costs down in the earth-friendly plant leather economy.
